During first day (Tuesday, September 29th) we are planning two excursions to Hydro power plant Dubrovnik, in place Plat, between Dubrovnik and Cavtat. The hydro power plants in the basin of the Trebišnjica River are situated in two countries, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Dubrovnik power plant is the last step of this hydroelectric system. The bus will wait for participants in front of the University and will take them to HPP Dubrovnik and back according published schedule. Excursions will be available to certain number of preregistered conference participants (more details could be provided by LOC).
On the same day "Welcome reception" will be organized in the Sponza Palace situated in the end of Placa (Stradun) street, beside Luža, on the left side of the square centered with Orlando column. Gothic-Renaissance Sponza palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in the City, which has preserved its original form. Built 1516-1522, its form suggests possible appearance of the majority of public and private palaces in Dubrovnik before the earthquake of 1667. In this unique place participants will enjoy in sounds of Dubrovnik String Quartet. Despite evening concert, no dressing code has been envisaged for "Welcome reception"
On Friday 2nd October we will bring to participants a bit of famous history of Dubrovnik Republic as we will sail out from the port of Dubrovnik (Gruz) in replicas of two Renaissance ships. Ship “Tirena”, the replica of Dubrovnik Galleon from 16th century and “Karaka” ship which is replica of an historic karaka, a very important kind of trading vessel in famous Dubrovnik's fleet.
We will try to catch sunset while passing city walls and island of Lokrum towards small town Cavtat or in ancient times known as Greek colony, Epidaurum, which in 228 BC came under Roman rule becoming later Roman colony. Five centuries later, people of Cavtat escaped in front of Slavs and form town of Ragusa or today’s Dubrovnik. Beside history, participants will be able to taste the Mediterranean on gala diner in famous restaurants of Cavtat.
Like its history, the weather in Dubrovnik is vertiginous so LOC holds rights to adopt Social events and programme according to the weather forecasts.
Excursion and dinner are included in conference's fee and we are inviting all authors to submit their final papers, to make conference registration and to join us in Dubrovnik!!!
