12. MAY 2017

Final conference of the FosterREG project held in Zagreb!


The final conference of the FosterREG projects was held in Zagreb, 11/05/2017 in hotel International, Miramarska cesta 24. Over 160 participants from all levels of government, representatives of non-government organisations, experts, engineers and academic community, guests from the European Commision and sister projects from the EU participated at the event.


During the two years of the project implementation, numerous events, meetings and workshops were held with the aim of building the capacities of the public officers to plan, finance and implement the integrated energy efficiency in urban regeneration projects on the city district level. The organizers wish to express gratitude to all the participants, as well as all who followed the conference through the live streaming, to all friends who attended this event in such a large number, confirming the interest and engagement which FosterREG project sparked in Croatia, Spain, The Netherlands and Poland, but also accross the whole European Union.

03. MAY 2017

Last in the series of workshops "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration" took place in Osijek.



The workshop "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration – changes in local strategic documents", was held in Osijek, 11/04/2017 in the BIOS SME incubator, J.J. Strossmayera 341. Overall 24 representatives of public authorities at national, regional and local level and civil society, professional and academic communities attended.


Focus of this workshop was on the local level and the necessary changes in local strategic documents, which would foster the implementation of integrated energy efficiency in urban regeneration projects on the city district level.

07. MARCH 2017

Second in the series of workshops "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration" took place in Osijek.



The workshop "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration – perspective of the cities", was held in Osijek, 03/03/2017 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. Over 60 representatives of public authorities at national, regional and local level and civil society, professional and academic communities attended.


Representatives of ministries and national bodies for implementation of integrated energy efficiency in urban regeneration projects presented their programmes to the local and regional stakeholders, to facilitate the collaborative work on addressing the key questions in financing and implementing projects on the city district level.

17. FEBRUARY 2017

First in the series of workshops "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration" took place in Zagreb.



The workshop "How to plan, finance and manage the projects with integrated energy efficiency measures in urban regeneration", was held in Zagreb, 15/02/2017 in hotel International. Over 80 representatives of public authorities at national, regional and local level and civil society, professional and academic communities attended.


Academic community and representatives of cities gave presentations about new approaches to the energy efficient urban regeneration, problems and possible solutions to the ministries and other stakeholders at the national level.

10. MARCH 2016

Second FosterREG project workshop "The integration of solutions for the implementation of energy efficiency projects in urban regeneration at the neighbourhood level in the strategic plans of cities and counties" was held in Zagreb.



The workshop "The integration of solutions for the implementation of energy efficiency projects in urban regeneration at the neighbourhood level in the strategic plans of cities and counties" was held in Zagreb, 03/09/2016 in hotel International. Total of 80 representatives of public authorities at national, regional and local level and civil society, academic communities and in particular from building managers and engineering professionals attended.


During the workshop, the identified barriers and problems from the previous stages, related to energy efficiency in residential buildings in Croatia were discussed and through collaborative action with the participants potential integration strategies were defined, that need to be put into practice through strategic plans and legislative at national, regional and local level, if the energy efficiency in urban regeneration is to be successful.

29. JANUARY 2016

First project workshop "Fostering public capacity to plan, finance and manage integrated urban regeneration for sustainable energy uptake" was held in Osijek.



The workshop "Fostering public capacity to plan, finance and manage integrated urban regeneration for sustainable energy uptake", was held in Osijek, 01/29/2016 in the Great Hall of the Osijek-Baranja county. With the presence of the prefect of Osijek-Baranja County, Mr. Vladimir Šišljagić, total of 65 representatives of public authorities at national, regional and local level and civil society, professional and academic communities attended.


The workshop was conducted in the framework of the project FosterREG (www.fosterreg.eu), co-financed by the EU under the Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020. The project aims to improve the capacity of administrative bodies at local, regional and national level for planning, financing and managing integrated urban regeneration and sustainable energy use through capacity building, promoting and presenting effective mulilevel cooperation and the strengthening of national, and European networking.


During the workshop, the current state of barriers and problems related to energy efficiency in residential buildings in Croatia was discussed and through discussion with the participants potential solutions that need to be put into practice were identified. The next workshop will deal with the way that the solutions can be included in the programs and strategies of energy efficiency at regional and local level.

  • SDEWES Centre has awarded the best graduate theses in the past academic year of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in the field of sustainable development of energy, water and the environment systems. A committee consisting of Prof. Nataša Markovska, Prof. Nikola Ružinski and Prof. Aleksander Zidanšek made a decision on the three best graduate theses and the best authors are Mario Majdandžić, Luka Pavlinek and Vanja Kušen. Best thesis author, Mario Majdandžić will receive a cash prize in the amount of 5,000 HRK and the other two authors will receive a fee waiver for one of SDEWES conferences in 2018. Congratulations!
